The MMO launched their Marine Plan Monitoring Survey on 11 November 2024.
For those who have not yet had an opportunity to complete the survey, the deadline for doing so is in a few weeks, on Monday 27 January 2025.
Monitoring surveys are one method used to provide data on the use of the marine plans in the decision-making process and support understanding of the influence marine plan policies have in those decisions. Information shared is used to support a three-yearly report to Parliament on the effectiveness of marine plans.
The monitoring surveys are the MMO’s primary source of data collection where other data methods are limited and therefore your effort in completing the monitoring survey is important. You can complete the monitoring surveys as an individual or on behalf of your organisation. Please ensure you select all marine plans you operate within and want your response to apply to.
You can view previous survey summaries on gov.uk for 2022 and 2023. The surveys provide valuable information to inform our reporting required under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. The most recently published reports are the Third Report for the East Marine Plans, as well as the First Report for the South Marine Plan.
How long will the monitoring survey take to complete?
The survey takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete. We can only accept fully completed monitoring surveys, those partially completed will be excluded from the final analysis of the data. The survey does not have to be completed it in a single session, you can leave and return to it later (provided you use the same device, and you do not delete your browser history).

Data collected through the monitoring surveys and used in publications will be aggregated and anonymised. Your personal information will not be shared.
