Diving and Snorkelling

The clear blue waters around our coasts offer some of the most spectacular diving experiences in the Atlantic.  Warm ocean currents bring a wealth of marine life to our shores, species which are at the northernmost extreme of their distribution and so not found elsewhere in the UK.  Add to this a variety of different dive types and sites, from wrecks and reefs to fast drifts and deep dives and you have the perfect combination for awesome diving.

There are a number of thriving dive clubs around the South West who can provide advice and services as appropriate, there is also a wide network of dive shops and chandlers able to cater to all your diving needs.  The South West also has the only Marine Nature Reserve in England at Lundy Island, and there are many trips organised to sample the delights of a recovering marine environment.

Snorkelling, free-diving and spear fishing are also becoming increasingly popular and what better way to experience the delights of our underwater world than to slide in to a clear blue sea on a late summer afternoon for a little float around a rocky reef.

Always check tide-times and weather conditions before venturing in to the water, and make sure you have a good knoweldge of currents and potential hazards.  Its is very easy to find yourself caught in a strong current that is heading out to sea.  If performing a drift dive make sure you have an inflatable SMB with you and that the boat crew are familiar with the speed and direction of current flow.
