Recreation

Messing about near, on or under the sea provide us with some of our most fundamental and enjoyable experiences.  The diversity and quality of these experiences in Devon is world class - from dramatic diving sites, wild surf beaches and secluded rocky fishing spots, to broad sheltered estuaries and windswept sandy bays.  Enjoying these pass-times safely and responsibly is important if they are to be pursued in a sustainable way.  Please visit the marine safety pages for further information.

Marine litter has become a major concern to which all visitors to the sea can either be part of the problem or part of the solution.  The Devon Maritime Forum would encourage all users of the sea to take their own litter home, and perhaps even take litter they find on their trip home as well.  Leave your favourite places in a better state than when you found them.

The Marine Conservation Society has an 'Adopt a Beach' campaign and conducts regular beach cleans around the coast.  Each estuary partnership around Devon also conducts beach cleans on a regular basis - contact these partnerships for more details.
