Marine Stewardship

Marine Stewardship is a relatively new idea, where fisheries can apply for a certificate that declares them to be underaking their fishery in a sustainable manner.  This process ensures that marine ecosystem protection is at the heart of sustainable fisheries and goes a long way to reconciling the disputes between fisheries organisations and conervationists, as they both require a healthy and viable ecosystem in order to profit.  Obtain marine stewardship accreditation makes the product from these fisheries more valuable.  It declares a responsible approach to fishing and therefore is more attractive to increasingly discerning consumers.  The Marine Stewardship Council is the main body promoting and accrediting fisheries that are carried out in a sustainable way.
