Tides and Weather

Seashore Code

Going to the beach is brilliant fun but it helps to remember a few golden rules

  • Treat the animals as you would like to be treated.
  • Leave animals attached to where they live, they may die if you dislodge them
  • When turning a rock, replace it and any animals as you found them.
  • Watch where you stand – many seashore animals will be damaged if you and try to disrupt the natural wildlife as little as possible.
  • Take only photos and leave only footprints.
  • Take all your litter home with you and if you see anything left behind by other people, you could take that home too
  • Wash your hands when you have finished!

Safety

  • Bring adequate clothing for the day – from waterproofs, warm clothing and refreshments to sun lotions, sun hats and wellington boots!
  • Check tides and weather before you leave
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back – leave a phone number
  • Go with other people – it is always good to be with someone who knows the area
  • Watch the sea, it changes quickly and it is easy to get lost or cut off when you are busy enjoying yourself
  • Always leave plenty of time to get back from your trip
  • Rocks can be slippery even if the weather is dry
