Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy (CAMIS)
The CAMIS project – integrated maritime strategy of the channel space.
The CAMIS project (Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy) was approved in June 2009 as part of the INTERREG IVA France (Channel) - England Programme, following the success of the Espace Manche Development Initiative (EMDI) project. The ambition of CAMIS is to draft and implement an integrated maritime policy in the Channel space whilst encouraging concrete co-operation schemes between stakeholders in France and the UK. The project brings together 19 British and French partners, including a range of local authorities and universities, to work together in light of the new EU and national requirements.
Arc Manche
Arc Manche is a geographical area made up of the British and French territories bordering or in the English Channel. Arc Manche has become a political project where local authorities can use the network to share best practices, coordinate initiatives and pull together project ideas to draw in EU funding.
The Arc Manche Assembly was created to improve the visibility of the network, by promoting the Channel area as a logical approach for territorial co-operation at European Union level and to gain recognition from the European Institutions. It aims to reinforce French-British partnerships between regions on both sides of the Channel by delivering joint actions and projects, which could be supported by European Union policies.
