The National Trust

The National Trust, as Britain’s largest coastal landowner, has a unique experience of long-term coastal ownership, management and conservation. This experience we are sharing with coastal communities, agencies, organisations and other landowners as well as look at how coastal and marine activities will change, and be affected by change, in the 21st century.
In managing any countryside area, the Trust has to achieve a balance between a number of different – and sometimes conflicting – issues. In managing the coast, new challenges such as climate change, sea level rise, fisheries management and the need for a marine planning system have led the Trust to shift its focus beyond the limits of its land ownership and to get involved in issues affecting the broader coastal zone.
The Trust protects 35% of the coast of Devon and believes the Devon Maritime Forum is an excellent vehicle to help deliver this sharing of knowledge and learning from the experience of others.
