Core Services
To help us deliver our Aims and Objectives and overall mission, we will provide a suite of 'core services'. These reflect the needs and ambitions of the membership, improving information exchange, decision-making and advocacy for coastal issues.
1.Communication and awareness-raising
- Regular workshops and symposia events aimed at delivering networking and information gathering opportunities
- An up-to-date website which acts as a one-stop-shop for all marine and coastal news, consultations and legislation
- Regular updates on issues of local, regional and national importance via e-news letter
- An advocacy role for maritime stakeholders – acting as a champion for the sea
2.Point of Contact
- Managing and maintaining a County-wide network of contacts and links between stakeholders in Devon and the South West
- Access to a store of information about marine and coastal aspects of Devon and the South West
- Providing information from and too the international community
- Providing objective information to stakeholders and interested parties
3.Integrating planning and coastal policy
- Stakeholder participation opportunities (e.g. Shoreline Management Planning and Water Framework Directive)
- A strategic overview of the impacts and application of new legislation
- Lobbying at regional and national levels (e.g. for Local Area Agreements and Strategic Partnerships to reflect maritime concerns and for the proposed Marine Management Organisation to be situated in Devon)
- Identifying and filling gaps in information through the commissioning and dissemination of research
- Participating in relevant steering groups and meetings in order to get a clear view of policy and planning developments, helping various interest groups to fine-tune their policies
