An Introduction to the Forum
The Devon Maritime Forum is a key strategic Coastal Partnership, covering the geographic county of Devon, working for all organisations with an interest in the coasts and seas around Devon and the South West. We complement the other local Coastal Partnerships of Devon by providing a strategic overview of issues and bringing diverse organisations together in order to motivate and coordinate action towards common goals.
Our missions is
"To Champion a recovering marine environment that takes its rightful place in all legislation, decision-making and action as a primary natural asset for Devon and the Wider Region"
To underpin this vision we aim to:
- Be an active, delivery-focused organisation with a small, professional and independent team working in close contact with communities and policy developers across the county
- Provide inspirational leadership and ground-breaking products, practices and services for our members that significantly contribute to the sustainable use and understanding of the maritime environment
- Participate in and lead projects that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits
- Continue to maintain a neutral and balanced Forum focused on an ecosystems-services based approach
- Scrutinise and challenge policy and legislation in order to simplify complexity where it exists and reduce the burden of consultation on stakeholders
- Have a broad and balanced membership reflecting all sectors and interests
- Provide a focus for engagement, education, and awareness-raising in marine issues
- Be an award-winning organisation recognised across a wide range of sectors and for best-practice with a strong track record of delivery, success and influence
We work from the offices of Devon County Council - one of our main core funders - where we maintain a neutral and balanced approach to maritime issues. We operate a number of Core Services that are augmented by additional projects and programmes of work on a regular basis.
Our Core Services are:
- Stakeholder engagement, networking and faciltiated decision-making
- Communication, education and awareness-rasising
- Informing planning, policy and legislation
- Providing a central point of contact and information service
- Project management and development
